Ann told us:

I am delighted to be the recipient of a British Empire Medal for which I was nominated by Low Moss prison.
The Low Moss Community Volunteer Group developed in preparation for the opening of the prison in 2012. Communications with Churches Together groups in Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch, Lenzie, Possil, Bearsden and Milgavie along with community meetings resulted in volunteers from all faiths and none coming together to bring a little of the community into the prison. Some of the activities include; monthly prayer meetings with the Chaplaincy team, visiting prisoners, helping Dads to interact with their children, helping with homework and working as a team with prisoners to provide hospitality for visitors. The first ever Guide and Scout group in prison was started by members of Mothers’ Union at Low Moss.
I have accepted the honour on behalf of the volunteer group and am extremely grateful for all the support I received from all volunteers and from staff at Low Moss, The Scottish Episcopal Church and members of Mothers’ Union.
