Welcome to the Scottish Diaspora

A project to involve communities around the world in celebration of Scottish heritage and culture, the people and places which connect Scotland to its global diaspora.

Scots have migrated all over the world and have often had a profound impact on the areas where they settled. This project brought together stories from many such communities, documenting their Scottish connections in more than 300 embroidered panels. It is a remarkable and heartfelt homage to the determination, courage and achievement of Scottish migrants and their descendants across the centuries.

There is also a free app, perfect for reading whilst viewing the exhibition. (Remember to download ahead of time!)Alternatively, you can download your very own quick guide to the panels in English, Gaelic, Italian or French. Just print it out before you visit the exhibition to help you navigate.   You can also explore the entire Tapestry and enjoy a virtual journey through the Scottish Diaspora.

You can join the Scottish Diaspora Tapestry on Facebook for the latest news, information, and posts from stitchers the world over!
