We are delighted to announce that this year’s Bishop’s Lent Appeal for Malawi Association for Christian Support has raised a fantastic £11,206.91. Thanks to the generosity of people across the Diocese, the new operating theatre suite at St Luke’s Hospital, Malosa, is nearing completion. Together, we are working to improve the lives of the people of Malawi.

Alistair Watson from St James-the-Less, Bishopbriggs presented the Lent Appeal to our Diocesan Synod. His talk notes the many connections between the Scottish Episcopal Church and Malawi and gives plenty of information about the vital work of M.A.C.S., it is well worth a listen!
Those of you who were at Synod in February will already be aware that this year’s Lent Appeal was proposed to Bishop Gregor before he retired, and has since been commended by our Interim Bishop, the Primus, as our Lent Appeal for 2019. It is in aid of M.A.C.S., the Malawi Association for Christian Support. M.A.C.S. has done tremendous work alleviating poverty and need in Malawi over the years, not least in their projects for St Luke’s Hospital there. At the moment, they are trying to raise £175,000 for a new operating theatre. So far, they have just over £100,000, so it’s hoped we can lend as much support as possible.
M.A.C.S. is a charity that works alongside people in Malawi by responding to a wide range of requests for support from some of the poorest rural communities. Through the education of children, the training of adults, improved healthcare and support for parishes and communities, they aim to help people change their lives.
