Glasgow Society of Organists (GSO) is looking to encourage young people with appropriate piano/keyboard skills to learn to play the organ through an exciting event, The Pipe Organ Experience: Come and learn about ‘the King of instruments’ – the Pipe Organ. This event, the first of its kind to be held by the Society, will take place on Sunday 1 October 2017 from 2pm until 5pm.
Whilst the principal venue for the afternoon will be New Kilpatrick Parish Church, Bearsden, participants will have the opportunity to visit the organs in two neighbouring Churches (including All Saints). The target audience will be secondary school students in S4-S6 with Grade 4 piano/keyboard or above. There will, however be some flexibility around these age limits for outstanding candidates.
The programme for the afternoon will comprise of plenary sessions and small group tutorials, and will include ‘hands on’ experience of playing the organ, learning how an organ works and hearing one of the country’s top organists. As a follow-up to the event, a free organ lesson will be offered to each young person who attends. Places at the event are limited and will be offered on a first come, first served basis. The closing date for registration is 25th August.
